The Group of Eight leaders meeting in Okinawa beginning Friday will explore ways to prevent regional conflicts and address other challenges in the sphere of international politics.
In addition to formulating steps to deal with rapidly expanding information technology, the three-day summit will focus on developing comprehensive conflict-prevention measures based on a blueprint drawn up by the G8 foreign ministers last week in Miyazaki.
The G8 leaders will discuss a wide array of international political issues, such as nuclear nonproliferation, arms control and the reduction of the number of weapons in circulation, antiterrorism measures and reform of the United Nations.
