A strong earthquake jolted the Izu Island chain south of Tokyo Saturday morning, measuring a lower 6 on the Japanese intensity scale of 7, as recorded on Niijima Island, the Meteorological Agency said.
It was the third quake this month that measured a lower 6 on the intensity scale in the Izu Island chain.
At least eight people on Niijima suffered injuries in the 10:30 a.m. quake that registered magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale. The agency said there was no danger of tsunami.
