MIYAZAKI-- The Group of Eight foreign ministers ended their two-day gathering here Thursday by adopting a statement covering a wide range of international political issues and a comprehensive "Miyazaki Initiative for Conflict Prevention."
The G8 also formally endorsed North Korea's overtures to the rest of the world, highlighted by last month's inter-Korean summit, but also called for Pyongyang to make a "constructive response to international concerns over security, nonproliferation, humanitarian and human rights issues."
The Miyazaki gathering and the G8 finance ministers' meeting last Saturday laid the groundwork for discussions at the Okinawa G8 summit next week.
