The Japanese unit of DaimlerChrysler AG said Wednesday it is recalling 10,905 E-class right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz models because of defects that could lead to fires.
Subject to the recall are the E230, E230 Station Wagon and E320 models imported between July 1995 and February 1997.
The automaker said defective parts could lead to engine oil leaking into the exhaust pipe, thereby causing a fire to break out. Eleven such incidents have already been reported, according to company officials.
