James Treece of Automotive News has narrowly beaten Anthony Rowley of the Singapore Business Times to become president of the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan, official election results showed Friday.
Treece, currently first vice president, collected 76 votes, compared with 69 votes for Rowley, according to the results.
Succeeding Treece as first vice president was Firdous Khergamvala of the Hindu.
Toshio Aritake of the Bureau of National Affairs became second vice president, Patrick Killen, a freelancer, won the post of secretary, and George Baumgartner of Swiss Radio and Television was elected treasurer unopposed.
Suvendrini Kakuchi of Inter Press Service, Hans van der Lugt of NRC-Handelsblad, Jonathan Watts of the Guardian and the Observer, and Bradley Martin of the Asian Financial Intelligence were made directors at large.
