The Lower House election will be held on June 25 and campaigning will officially start on June 13, leaders of the three ruling parties confirmed Thursday.
Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, the president of the Liberal Democratic Party, conveyed the schedule to New Komeito leader Takenori Kanzaki and New Conservative Party head Chikage Ogi at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
The Lower House will probably be dissolved on June 2, according to Kanzaki, who spoke after the meeting, following the May 30 memorial address for the late former Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi to be given at the Lower House plenary session.
