The Upper House Health and Welfare Committee approved a bill Thursday that will make state-paid child allowance available to households with children under age 6.
Currently the allowance is available to those with children under 3.
The committee endorsed the bill after the chairman cast a tie-breaking vote in its favor. It is likely to be enacted into law during an Upper House plenary session today and take effect in June.
