Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori asked China to peacefully settle its disputes with Taiwan and renew dialogue with the government of the island during a meeting Thursday in Tokyo with Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan.
Tang, who arrived Wednesday on a four-day visit, repeated his country's position that China will resume talks if Taiwan recognizes the "one-China" principle and demonstrates that it has decided not to seek independence.
China will wait to see the direction of Taiwan's policy toward China, Tang told Mori during a 50-minute courtesy call on the prime minister at his official residence.
