Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori said Thursday he was not amused by a civic group's campaign to target certain politicians for removal from the Diet and vowed to look into the case.
"It may constitute a violation of election laws," Mori told reporters at his official residence, saying he would consult advisers about the matter.
He was referring to a campaign by a Tokyo civic group to defeat politicians the group deems unfit to hold office. Those named included Mori and former prime ministers Noboru Takeshita, Yasuhiro Nakasone and Kiichi Miyazawa. The next general election is expected to be held June 25.
