Policymakers at the Bank of Japan are close to concluding discussions on when to terminate the bank's zero-interest rate policy, the central bank's deputy governor told a parliamentary committee Wednesday.

"We are continuing discussions with the aim of terminating (the zero-rate policy) after we confirm that all is well with the economy," Sakuya Fujiwara told the House of Councilors Special Committee on Financial Issues and Revitalization of the Economy. "Talks are close to being concluded."

The central bank's Policy Board had been saying it would continue the zero-rate policy, but Fujiwara indicated the board is considering other options, saying, "Various matters are being discussed."
