A woman has confessed to participating in the killing of a man in a murder-for-insurance scheme in Honjo, Saitama Prefecture, police sources said.

Mayumi Take, 32, has reportedly started telling investigators she administered unnecessary but unspecified quantities of a cold remedy to Akira Morita, a former pachinko parlor employee who died of heart disease May 29 last year at age 61.

"I tried to kill Morita with a cold remedy," Take was quoted by police investigators as having said.

Police investigations revealed insurance policies totaling 176 million yen had been taken out on Morita and acetaminophen, a powerful component of a cold remedy, was detected in his hair.
