Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid said Wednesday his government and rebels in Aceh Province have reached a peace accord in principle and are set to finalize it in several days during ongoing talks in Geneva.

Wahid said in an interview that he has now come to grips with political and security problems after six months in office, providing room to embark on full efforts for economic reform.

The president stressed the need to rebuild industries, particularly the mining sector, and called for efforts to encourage investment.

Wahid reiterated his desire to detach the police from the military and establish a civilian police system.
