A 30-year-old woman who had been on the run for nine years for a 1990 murder-for-insurance case in Akaike, Fukuoka Prefecture, was arrested on Saturday after turning herself in.

According to police, Chie Masuda, former owner of a jewelry shop, collaborated with Yoshikatsu Oda, 52, in December 1990 in killing a 20-year-old female employee of her shop and a 27-year-old man after paying premiums for a 100 million yen life insurance on the employee.

After stabbing the two to death, Masuda and Oda took the bodies by car to a park and set fire to them to make it look like suicide. The murdered man was an acquaintance of Masuda who she had met through a telephone dating club.

Oda was sentenced to death at Fukuoka District Court in March. He did not appeal, and the sentence was confirmed on March 30.
