Okinawa Gov. Keiichi Inamine on Wednesday inspected the venue for the July 21-23 summit of the Group of Eight major powers prior to Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi's visit to the facility on Saturday.

The Bankoku Shinryokan -- meaning "a hall to build a bridge across a thousand nations" -- in the city of Nago is almost complete, prefectural officials said.

Inamine inspected the inside of the convention center, where Obuchi will be taken on his visit, the officials said.

The facility, which is roofed with red tiles -- a feature of Okinawan architecture, has a conference hall with interpretation equipment as well as lounges and reception rooms.
