The dollar fell below 105 yen at one time last week, prompting the Bank of Japan to step in again.
Apparently fearing a strong yen would undermine efforts to get the economy back on track, the BOJ signaled to the market that it intends to prevent the dollar from falling below 105 yen.
For its intervention to be effective, the BOJ must have the market convinced of its determination.
