Economic Planning Agency chief Taichi Sakaiya said Sunday the government's fiscal policy should concentrate on information- and environment-related areas to put the Japanese economy on a full recovery track.
Japan needs "concentrated fiscal policy, rather than additional fiscal policy measures," Sakaiya said on a television program.
The government should consider taking concentrated measures for the information- and environment-related industries in the second half of this year, he said.
The EPA chief said the government will not necessarily compile a supplementary budget to that end. "If it becomes clear that the central and local governments are concentrating policies on those areas, people's expectations will focus (on those sectors)," he said.
Sakaiya hinted at the government's readiness to consider measures to boost private-sector demand for growth areas without relying on further fiscal spending.
