A special investigative committee on the deadly Hibiya Line subway train collision in Tokyo said Thursday that all railway companies should erect more railings and other safeguards along curves with a radius of 200 meters or less.
Based on the emergency recommendation, the Transport Ministry today will order 50 railway operators with tracks that have curves of that length to set up barriers as quickly as possible, ministry officials said.
There are about 800 sections of rail with radii of 200 meters or less, including the 156 sections of rail owned by the Teito Rapid Transit Authority, operator of the Hibiya and several other subway lines in Tokyo.
