Japan Telecom has chosen Nokia as a business partner for developing its third-generation mobile network. The agreement allows Nokia to move into the Japanese mobile Internet market, the most advanced in the world for next-generation mobile communications.
As a global leader in the development of W-CDMA technology, Nokia will deliver its radio access network solutions for mobile Internet access, including base stations, to Japan Telecom.
Koichi Sakata, chairman of Japan Telecom, said, "We chose Nokia due to its proven track record in the supply of innovative mobile networks. We are looking forward to building a global next-generation network, and we intend to provide seamlessly integrated network services, especially high-speed multimedia and mobile Internet services."
Jorma Ollila, chairman and CEO of Nokia, called the agreement a significant milestone for third-generation mobile technology. "It takes us even further toward Nokia's vision of putting the Internet in every pocket," he said.
"This partnership underlines the importance of open standards and interfaces across the industry," he emphasized.
