Japan opened a liaison office Friday in East Timor's capital of Dili to help facilitate rehabilitation and development work there.

The office will initially be in a hotel, but will later move to a building currently under repair, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ryuichiro Yamazaki said earlier in the week.

Japan will post two Foreign Ministry officials to the office. One will be sent immediately from the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta and the other from Tokyo in April at the earliest, Yamazaki said.
