Japan is considering a comprehensive package of technical and financial assistance programs to help Iran fight the increasingly acute problem of air pollution, especially in Tehran, according to government sources.
The package will include technical cooperation worth between 100 million yen and 200 million yen for the establishment of an air-pollution monitoring system in Tehran, although other specific programs have yet to be determined, the sources said Tuesday.
The government hopes it will be able to compile the package before Iranian President Mohammad Khatami's planned first official visit to Tokyo later this year, they said.
