A 36-year-old woman pleaded guilty Monday to killing a 2-year-old girl in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward last November and burying her body in Shizuoka Prefecture. She also apologized to the victim's family.
Mitsuko Yamada admitted strangling Haruna Wakayama and burying her body in the backyard of her mother's house in Oikawa, Shizuoka Prefecture.
"I am sorry that I took the life of Haruna (Wakayama) and caused sorrow to Haruna, her parents and her relatives," Yamada, a former nurse, tearfully said as her trial opened before the Tokyo District Court.
