Japan intends to hold the first-ever trilateral meeting among foreign ministers of Japan, China and South Korea in Bangkok in late July, government sources said Sunday.
The talks are planned to coincide with a meeting in the Thai capital of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus Japan, China and South Korea, and will also allow Japan to report to Beijing and Seoul on the proceedings of this year's Group of Eight summit, to be held in July in Okinawa, Japan.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, Japan recently made informal proposals to China and South Korea about the trilateral foreign ministerial meeting, and both countries responded positively.
