The unemployment rate stood at a seasonally adjusted 4.7 percent in January, unchanged from December's revised figure, with the rate at 4.8 percent for men and 4.5 percent for women, the Management and Coordination Agency said Tuesday.
The overall rate for January is just 0.1 percentage point off from the revised postwar high of 4.8 percent registered in March, April, June and July. The number of unemployed people rose 110,000 from December to 3.09 million in January, topping 3 million for the first time in three months.
The Labor Ministry meanwhile said in a separate report Tuesday that the ratio of job offers to job seekers in January stood at 0.52, meaning there were 52 jobs for every 100 people seeking employment.
