Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi on Friday ordered his Cabinet to draft an economic stimulus package worth more than 10 trillion yen, Chief Cabinet Secretary Mikio Aoki said.
The government will decide on the stimulus by mid-November, and ministers are to submit requests for the supplementary budget by the end of the month.
The package will include 3.5 trillion yen to nurture projects that will help take Japan's economy into the next century, such as the Internet, telecommunications and other emerging technologies.
