The Tokyo District Court on Wednesday dismissed claims from 10 Chinese demanding a formal apology and 100 million yen from the state over suffering they endured due to Japan's wartime activities in China.
The court, however, acknowledged the claim by plaintiffs -- wartime victims and their family members -- and urged the government to apologize to the people of China to establish peace and friendly relations with its neighbor.
The plaintiffs specifically cited the activities of Unit 731, known for its germ warfare experiments on Chinese, the 1937 Nanking Massacre and indiscriminate bombing over a safety zone during the 1937-1945 war Japan waged in China.
