Finance Minister Kiichi Miyazawa and Bank of Japan Gov. Masaru Hayami held an emergency meeting Thursday afternoon in a bid to curb the yen's surge against the dollar but failed to achieve an immediate halt to the yen-buying trend.
"We discussed various financial policies. But I can't tell you about specific measures to deal with the yen's rise," Miyazawa told reporters after his meeting with Hayami at a Tokyo hotel.
The finance minister said he will continue to deal with the yen's appreciation in close contact with Hayami.
