Globalization in light of the recent Asian economic crisis and human rights issues in East Timor are likely to be discussed "openly and frankly" when a United Nations regional hearing convenes today in Tokyo, a high-ranking United Nations official said Wednesday.
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Regional Hearing, hosted at the U.N. University, is the last of five such meetings to be held worldwide as part of preparations for the U.N.'s Millennium Assembly and Millennium Summit events to be held next year, U.N. Assistant Secretary General Miles Stoby said.
