To commemorate its 110th anniversary since it opened on Nov. 3, 1890, in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, the Imperial Hotel Ltd. has announced special programs for its guests.
The memorial events, starting in October and running through December 2000, include four exhibitions, special dinner programs, and new bridal plans. The hotel will also host French cuisine weeks in November and December 2000, inviting top chefs from two five-star hotels in Paris.
Kiyohito Minoshima, general manager of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo and senior managing director of the operating company, said the hotel hopes to attract more guests traveling for pleasure rather than on business.
"With corporate use on decline amid the recession, we are shifting our target market from business people to private users as one of our strategies for the 21st century," he said. The hotel is also planning to expand mail-order business for its original foods and goods such as tableware.
