The Cabinet on Tuesday appointed Osamu Tsuno, 60, deputy director general of the Cabinet Legislation Bureau, as the new head of the bureau, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiromu Nonaka said.
At a news conference after a regular Cabinet meeting, Nonaka said Masasuke Omori, who has served as director general of the Cabinet Legislation Bureau since January 1996, had tendered his resignation to the Cabinet, and it was accepted Tuesday.
In tendering his resignation, Omori reportedly said now that legislation to reorganize government ministries and agencies has been approved by the Diet, remaining work to implement the reforms should be dealt with by a new bureau chief and staffers.
Tsuno, a former Finance Ministry official, joined the Cabinet Legislation Bureau in 1986 and has been serving as its deputy director general since January 1996.
