Representatives from five Liberal Democratic Party factions agreed Monday to form a joint election campaign headquarters to support re-election of Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi as party president, faction officials said.

The five factions are those led respectively by Obuchi, LDP Secretary General Yoshiro Mori, Kazuo Tanikawa, Yohei Kono and one jointly led by Takami Eto and Shizuka Kamei.

The Society to Realize Re-election of President Obuchi will be established in a ceremony scheduled for Aug. 27 at a Tokyo hotel, the officials said.

The LDP presidential election is scheduled to be held Sept. 21. In addition to Obuchi, former LDP policy affairs chief Taku Yamasaki and former Secretary General Koichi Kato are also joining the race.
