Tokyo prosecutors this week will indict a 28-year-old man arrested in last month's hijacking of an All Nippon Airways jetliner and the slaying of its captain, having deemed the accused mentally fit to stand trial, sources said Wednesday.
The Tokyo District Prosecutor's Office will charge Yuji Nishizawa of Tokyo's Edogawa Ward with murder and violation of the Hijack Prevention Law without having him undergo a comprehensive psychiatric test, on grounds that he had a clear notion of right and wrong at the time of the crime, the sources said.
Nishizawa hijacked the July 23 ANA flight from Tokyo to Sapporo and fatally stabbed Capt. Naoyuki Nagashima allegedly because the victim would not give up the controls of the plane, which had more than 500 passengers and crew members on board.
