OSAKA -- A knife-wielding man robbed a consumer finance company in the Nanba district here Wednesday morning and made off with about 2 million yen in cash, police said.
A man about 30 years old wearing dark glasses and a face mask entered the Casco Nanba office at around 11:45 a.m., pulled a knife and demanded cash from office manager Akira Watanabe and two clerks, police said.
The suspect took out about 1 million yen in cash from a safe near the counter and grabbed another 1 million yen from Watanabe, they said, adding that he put the money into a brown bag and fled the office.
No customers were inside the office at the time of the robbery, and no one was hurt. The firm is located on the third floor of a commercial building near Kintetsu Nanba Station.
The suspect is described as being between 170 cm and 180 cm tall, police said.
Watanabe said he handed over 1 million yen to keep the attention of the robber, who started chasing a female clerk when she attempted to flee the office.
