In yet another blow to Japanese automakers struggling amid the prolonged economic slump at home, Brazil plans to abolish its preferential import-tariff treatment for Japanese automakers next month, four months earlier than originally planned, government sources said Wednesday.
The sources said that Brazil, citing its own faltering auto market due to the aftereffects of the global financial crisis, has notified Japan recently of a plan to bump up the date to remove a "tariff quota" Japanese automakers have benefited from for the past three years.
