A junior high school student from Tochigi Prefecture was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of robbing a Tokyo jewelry store of Rolex watches worth about 12.6 million yen, police said.
The 14-year-old boy, whose name is being withheld under the Juvenile Law, threatened a clerk at K-1 in Ginza with a model gun and told the clerk to give him expensive watches and money.
When the clerk gave him a total of 27 Rolex watches, the boy put them into his day pack and fled.
However, he was apprehended about 300 meters from the shop by police officers whom the clerk called for help. The boy's model gun was seized when he was arrested.
The boy was quoted as saying that he had left home about a week ago and had used up all his money.
The clerk told police that he did not think the boy was a junior high school student because he is about 180 cm tall.
There were two other shop clerks and two customers in the shop at the time of the incident.
