The government on Thursday will submit a fiscal 1999 supplementary budget to the Diet after having it approved by Cabinet ministers the same day, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiromu Nonaka said Monday.
The government is working on a supplementary budget worth about 520 billion yen, aimed at creating more than 700,000 jobs and beefing up the nation's corporate competitiveness.
Nonaka said the government will hold a Cabinet meeting Thursday to approve the budget.
The meeting was originally scheduled for Friday but is being brought forward because Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi is leaving Thursday for China and then Mongolia.
The budget for fiscal 1999 through March 2000 is expected to pass the Diet in a week or so, since no objections have been raised by the ruling and opposition camps.
