Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiromu Nonaka on Friday said measures to help small businesses in the event of bank failures need to be drawn up after the government introduces a ceiling on guaranteed deposits in April 2001.
Once the system is introduced, the government will guarantee the protection of deposits only up to 10 million yen per depositor if a bank fails.
"I basically think the (new) system should go into effect as scheduled, but it is also necessary to fully consider such problems when the implementation of the system begins," he told a regular news conference in the afternoon.
