SAN FRANCISCO -- Japan and the United States on Wednesday concluded talks here on equipment procurement procedures for Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp., agreeing to allow the Japanese telecom giant to introduce voluntary procurement rules.
According to informed sources, the Japanese and U.S. governments will monitor the procurement practices of NTT, which was broken up into smaller companies placed under a holding firm Thursday.
The two governments will also hold regular meetings to review progress under the new methods. The existing bilateral pact on NTT's procurement expired the same day.
