A series of events will be held nationwide throughout 2000 to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of the coronation of Hungary's first king, the Istvan, the Hungarian Embassy announced Thursday.
"The Year of Hungary Festival," sponsored by the Japan Hungary Friendship Association and promoted by the embassy, is a yearlong celebration encompassing various events such as theater performances and music concerts, embassy officials said. Officials hope the festival will strengthen the cultural ties between Hungary and Japan.
As part of the festival, a Japanese theater group will perform a play written by Hungarian President Arpad Goncz in the Osaka area next April.
