Visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong and Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura reaffirmed their commitment Friday to assist democratic reforms in Indonesia by closely watching its general elections next month and a presidential election in November.
During their talks Friday evening in Tokyo, Lee said that no matter who wins control through the upcoming elections, it is important for the new administration to continue to implement a series of reforms, according to a Foreign Ministry official.
Citing the complex social situation in Indonesia, Lee stressed that the elections should be held in such a way that its result will be accepted by the people, the official said. Lee and Komura agreed that the two countries are ready to welcome China as a WTO member, the official said.
