OKAZAKI, Aichi Pref. -- Mitsubishi Motors Corp. President Katsuhiko Kawasoe said Monday the company has received "a variety of proposals" from many automakers to form an alliance centering on MMC's technologies and did not rule out the possibility of any of them developing into a capital tieup.

"But I don't think capital tieup (talk) should come first," said Kawasoe said arguing that talks of concrete business cooperation plans should come before that. "If asked whether there will be a capital tieup, I can't either say 'yes' or 'no' now."

His remarks, though echoing his repeated public stance of the past few months, came two days after Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA formally agreed that the French firm will hold an equity stake of 36.8 percent in Nissan.
