A missing Osaka Sangyo University administrator, wanted in connection with embezzling from the college in 1992, is in police custody in the Philippines over a passport offense, it was discovered Wednesday.
Osaka police are requesting custody of Masaaki Shimizu, 62, on suspicion of using a fake passport to emigrate to the Philippines.
Police believe Shimizu, who is on an international wanted list, will be deported to Japan shortly due to the passport offense, after which they will begin investigations into the embezzlement of university-held stocks, police said.
In March 1992, Osaka Sangyo University filed a suit against Shimizu, then the head of its financial affairs section, alleging that he misappropriated school stock certificates for major electronic parts makers to use as collateral for his own share purchases over a period of several years up to July 1991.
