A 46-year-old salaried worker was seriously injured after jumping off a Tokyo train platform in an apparent suicide attempt Monday morning.
According to police, the man, whose name is being withheld, jumped in front of a train at JR Harajuku Station at 7:20 a.m., halting 26 trains and delaying 54 others on the JR Yamanote Line, which loops the metropolis. He was knocked over and seriously injured, they said.
The accident forced the temporary suspension of operations on the Yamanote and Saikyo lines, inconveniencing some 160,000 rush-hour commuters.
