The late film director Juzo Itami, who killed himself last December, left a fortune worth about 936 million yen, tax sources said Monday.
The estate was inherited by his widow, actress Nobuko Miyamoto, and their two children. Inheritance taxes accounted for more than 100 million yen, the sources said.
The inheritance consisted of a stake in his film production company, the family's home and property in Yugawara, Kanagawa Prefecture, and savings, they said.
Born in 1933 in Kyoto, Itami made his acting debut in a 1960 film. He directed his first movie, "Ososhiki" ("Funeral"), in 1984. It was a box office hit, and was followed by a series of successful films, including "Marusa no Onna" ("A Taxing Woman").
