Justsystem Corp. on Thursday reported midterm losses for the April-September period after being battered in fierce competition with computer software giant Microsoft Corp.
The Tokushima-based company posted pretax losses of 2.7 billion yen and operating losses of 2.5 billion yen. Net sales fell 33.5 percent, compared with the same period last year, to 7.6 billion yen.
Justsystem attributed the dips to a decline in sales of preinstalled software and lackluster sales of its Office suite sets. But Kazunori Ukigawa, the firm's president and chief executive officer, stressed at a Tokyo press conference that sales of the latest version of its main product, the Ichitaro word processor series, have been better than expected.
Ichitaro 9 was released in September, the last month of the reporting period. Along with Ichitaro Lite released in July, 610,000 units of the series were sold in the first half of fiscal year, Ukigawa said.
