Iran should not take military action against Afghanistan's Taliban movement following the deaths in Afghanistan of nine Iranian diplomats, the director general of a Foreign Ministry bureau was quoted as saying Thursday.
Kishichiro Amae, director general of the ministry's Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, made the comment to Iranian Charge d'Affaires Abdolhadi Borujerdi on Thursday, ministry officials said.
Amae told Borujerdi that an Iranian military advance into Afghanistan or a possible launch of missiles would not bring stability, the officials said. Borujerdi said he will convey the message to Tehran, according to the officials. Borujerdi replied that Iran hopes the international community will take tough action against the Taliban over its killing of the diplomats, they said.
