OSAKA -- A 46-year-old employee of the Osaka Prefectural Government is suspected of having swindled about 95 million yen in medical insurance benefits, it was learned Thursday.
The employee, also an executive member of the Osaka Prefecture branch of the All Japan Prefectural and Municipal Workers Union, is suspected of having received the money since spring 1995 through fabricated health reports using both made-up names and names of existing people, officials of the union branch said.
The insurance money was paid by a medical insurance cooperative formed by members of the union. The union, which discovered the illegal claims by the employee through an internal investigation, is planning to file a complaint against him with the Osaka Prefectural Police, the officials said. The worker was in charge of filing paperwork related to medical benefits.
