YOKOSUKA, Kanagawa Pref. -- The aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk arrived at the U.S. naval base here Tuesday, setting out to serve as the "911 carrier" of the Asia-Pacific region.
The 81,123-ton supercarrier arrived at 9:30 a.m., bearing a banner reading "Konnichiwa Yokosuka" in Japanese and a carp streamer from its superstructure; it was greeted by crew members' families, balloons and media helicopters.
