The AMDA, an Okayama-based nongovernmental organization of medical professionals, is seeking donations for earthquake-hit cities in Bolivia.
Two powerful quakes struck east of Santa Cruz on Friday, devastating the cities of Aiquile and Totora; they were followed by a third temblor the following day.
According to the AMDA, 84 people were killed and about 200 were injured or missing. About 80 percent of the houses in Aiquile and Totora have been destroyed. The cities lack tents, water, food and medical equipment, and the AMDA is seeking about $5,000 (615,000 yen) in donations for supplies.
Donations are being accepted at AMDA postal account 01250-2-40709. Please indicate donations are for earthquake relief in Bolivia. For more information, call (086) 284-7730 or fax (086) 284-8959.
