A megahit American film that won several Oscars in March has posted record ticket sales in Japan, the film's distributor said Monday.
Sales for "Titanic" in Japan have reached some 18.3 billion yen since it was released in December, according to its distributor, 20th Century Fox. The sales surpass those for last year's record-holder, the Japanese animated movie "Mononoke hime," company officials said.
The Oscars provided further momentum in the popularity of the film, produced on an unprecedented scale and featuring heartthrob Leonard DiCaprio, the officials said.
