OSAKA -- About 370 policemen from two prefectures simulated a high-speed chase over the newly opened Akashi Kaikyo Bridge to train for emergency mobilization of forces across prefectural lines Monday.
Police anticipate that the April 6 opening of the bridge will translate into more crimes spanning both Hyogo and Tokushima prefectures.
In the drill, four men simulated firing pistols at a truck transporting cash to a branch office of Shikoku Bank in Tokushima, seizing 30 million yen and fleeing in two cars. One car was caught within the prefecture. The second crossed the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and fled toward Kobe. A helicopter was dispatched to track and report the location of the fleeing car, which was cornered near the Tarumi Interchange in Kobe.
